A high-ranking Eagles official denied an ESPN report that the club is considering hiring a defensive consultant to help embattled defensive coordinator Juan Castillo.
ESPNs Chris Mortensen reported Monday night that the Eagles coaching staff and front office are considering bringing in an outside defensive coach next week, when the Eagles are on their bye.
Head coach Andy Reid hired Castillo as defensive coordinator in February to replace Sean McDermott even though Castillo had never coached defense since the mid-1980s. Castillo has been with the Eagles since 1995, most recently as offensive line coach.

The Eagles are 1-4, and their defense has struggled in each of the last four weeks. The Eagles are now ranked 30th in the NFL in rush defense, giving up 140 yards per game, and 27th in yards-per-carry at 5.0. Theyve also allowed 11 touchdown passes, second-most in the league, and they have just three interceptionsonly four teams have fewer. Only two teams have forced fewer turnovers.
The Eagles face the 3-1 Redskins on Sunday in Landover, Md., before a week off for the bye. They return with three consecutive home games against teams that currently do not have winning recordsDallas, Chicago and Arizona.
