No home field advantage for Birds this season

If the Eagles had just played .500 at home this year, theyd be in first place.

If theyd only been average at the Linc, theyd most likely be headed to the playoffs.

Instead, theyre 1-5 at home, 5-8 overall, and mired in their worst home stretch in 29 years.

You look at yourself as a team, and one of our huge weaknesses is playing at home, defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins said after practice Friday. Weve really got to dig deep and figure out what we have to do to get that changed.

People can say what they want about the fans, but its our job to go out there and give them something to cheer for, and if were not giving them something to cheer for, were not doing our job.

The Eagles face the Jets Sunday at the Linc, where their only win this year has come against the Cowboys. Add in three home losses to finish 2010, and the Eagles are 1-8 in their last nine home games. Thats their worst nine-game home stretch since 1981 and 1982, when they lost 10 of 11 games at home during one stretch.

Its frustrating, because we gave some of those games away, lost them at the end, games we should have won, Jenkins said.

Until this year, the Eagles had endured just one home losing record under Andy Reid, a 3-5 mark in 2007. They would have to beat both the Jets Sunday and the Redskins on the final day of the season to avoid their first two-win home record since 1986. If they lose both games, this would be their first one-win home season since 1982.

From 1999 through 2010, the Eagles were 60-36 at home, a .625 winning percentage. During their run of four consecutive NFC Championship games, from 2001 through 2004, they were 23-9.

This year ... 1-5.

The attitude we develop on the road, that road mentality, we have to have that same mentality at home, linebacker Brian Rolle said. At home, our fans boo us sometimes if were not playing to what theyre used to. If we get booed, weve got to play better so we dont get booed. We need to play better so they dont have anything to boo.

In four of their five home lossesGiants, 49ers, Bears, Cardsthe Eagles led in the fourth quarter.

Overall, theyve been outscored 149-134 at home this year. Theyre on pace to allow 199 points at home, which would be their most since 1968.

Playing at home is supposed to be your home field advantage, Asante Samuel said. We want to win every game, but you have to win your home games. You know, we have to get back to playing Eagle football and making our home fans proud.

The Eagles are 4-3 on the road, and the Packers7-0 away from Lambeauare the only NFC team with more road wins.

Only the winless Colts have a worse home record than the Eagles.

You know, we want to win every week, Jeremy Maclin said. Theres no time where we go into a game saying, Oh we dont have to win this. We want to win every week. And it has been a little frustrating knowing that ... weve only won one of the last (nine) games at home.

Thats supposed to be a place where were hard to beat, hard for teams to come in and win, and we havent done our part. We definitely want to get out there and get a W not only for the fans but for ourselves as well.
