Vick: It's our fault, not Reid's

Share

Michael Vick has a message for all the Eagles fans who want Andy Reid fired.

Youre blaming the wrong person.

I know its not Coachs fault, Vick said after practice Wednesday. Its not Coachs fault. Coach cant go out and hold onto the ball. Coach cant throw the ball down the field. Cant go out there and do it, he can only give us what we need. The recipe for victory and thats what we need.

Its the little things thats killing us in games. And I know the game of football, and Ive been around the game a long time, and I know the intricacies and the ins and outs, and its not Coach. Bottom line. So put the heat on the players. Put it on us. Dont put it on him.

The Eagles are 1-4 and in last place in the NFC East. They blew fourth-quarter leads in losses to the Falcons, Giants and 49ers, then fell behind by 21 points in the third quarter in a loss Sunday to the Bills.

Reid has taken the Eagles to the playoffs in nine of the last 11 seasons, but they havent won a playoff game since 2008, and fan frustration with Reid has reached a feverish pitch.

That hurts all of us, Vick said. Thats our coach, and hes one of the best in the business, and thats the bottom line. ... Coach Reid cant go out there and hold onto the ball for us. Coach Reid cant go out there and make the throws that I need to make. Coach can put us in good position, but weve got to make the plays on offense, defense and special teams.

Vick, NFL MVP runner-up last year, has struggled much of the season. Hes thrown an NFL-high seven interceptionsmore than he had in the entire 2010 regular seasonand has also lost three fumbles.

Yeah, I'm hurt more for the fans of the organization than even for myself ... and Im pretty sure every guy in this locker room feels the same way, he said. We know how weve been coached. How we prepare each and every week to be the best and give 110 percent effort and what we want to accomplish for our coach and what we think he deserves. Were just going to keep fighting, man, Ill tell you that. Aint going to be no letting up. Everybody going to get 110 percent effort out of us, and itll turn around. ... Were going to fight for him every minute.
