NFL Notes: Cary Williams reportedly joining Seahawks

Recent Eagles roster casualty Cary Williams has reportedly found a new home.

According to Ravens insider Aaron Wilson, Williams will be headed to Seattle.

Williams will fill the void at corner opposite Richard Sherman left by the departing Byron Maxwell, who will sign with the Eagles (see story). The Seahawks reportedly landed Williams over the Jets, Titans and Ravens. Williams was drafted by the Titans in 2008 and played for the Ravens before heading to the Eagles.

The Eagles released Williams on March 3 (see story). The 30-year-old was due $6.5 million in 2015. While releasing him carried $1.667 million in dead money, it was significantly less than the $8.1667 million cap hit the Eagles were slated to take if he remained on the roster.

William started every game in his two years with the Eagles, tallying five interceptions.

Patriots: Revis to become free agent
Darrelle Revis will become a free agent Tuesday after the Patriots decided not to pick up the cornerback's $20 million option, according to an ESPN.com report.

The Patriots signed Revis almost a year ago on March 17 to a two-year, $32 million deal. However, the deal was backloaded with a $25 million cap hit slated for 2015, thus the release.

Revis made $12 million in 2014, under-the-market rate for a corner of his caliber. He had yet to return to form after a torn ACL, but he cemented himself again as one of the league's top corners last season.

Although the Patriots are allowing the 29-year-old to test the free-agent waters, the team has not ruled out bringing him back. The Jets, the team that drafted the corner with the 14th pick in the 2007 NFL draft, are expected to make a push to bring him back.

Jaguars: TE Julius Thomas strikes deal
Pro Bowl tight end Julius Thomas appears to be on the move.

According to a report from Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com, Thomas and the Jaguars have reached an agreement on a deal. The contract will reportedly pay him around $9 million per season.

Thomas, drafted in the fourth round in 2011, broke out over the past two seasons with Peyton Manning at quarterback. He racked up a combined 108 catches for 1,277 and 24 touchdowns.

The 26-year-old Thomas' history of ankle injuries wasn't enough to scare off the Jags, who will now have a dynamic weapon to pair with young quarterback Blake Bortles.

49ers: Patrick Willis planning to retire
Seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker Patrick Willis plans to announce his retirement from professional football Tuesday, according to ESPN.com.

The 30-year-old 49ers linebacker had been slowed by a chronic injury to his left big toe for years. In 2014, Willis played in six games before missing the rest of the season because of surgery on the toe.

From 2011-2014, Willis helped the 49ers to three straight NFC Championship games and Super Bowl XLVII in which the Niners fell to the Ravens, 34-31.

Willis' planned announcement comes on the heels of major changes in San Francisco. Veteran defensive lineman Justin Smith is also expected to announce his retirement. Jim Tomsula took over at head coach for Jim Harbaugh, who left for the head job at the University of Michigan. And on Monday, there were reports the Eagles were in talks for quarterback Colin Kaepernick (see story).

Texans: Andre Johnson released
HOUSTON -- Andre Johnson has been released by the Houston Texans, a person with knowledge of the move tells The Associated Press.

The person spoke Monday on condition of anonymity because no formal announcement had been made by the team.

Johnson, the longest-tenured Texan, just completed his 12th season. He was a first-round draft pick in 2003, joining the expansion team in its second season.

The 33-year-old Johnson had 85 catches for 936 yards last season, but the Texans were beginning to see DeAndre Hopkins as their top receiving threat.

Johnson is a seven-time Pro Bowler with seven 1,000-yard receiving seasons and has 1,012 receptions with 13,597 yards receiving in his career.

He led the NFL in yards receiving in 2008 and 2009. His career high came in 2012 when he had 1,598 yards receiving and the Texans reached the playoffs for the second time (see full story).
