Here is a look at the news around the NFL:

Blackmon suspended for substance abuse
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The NFL has suspended Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon for the first four games of the 2013 regular season for a violation of the league's substance abuse policies.

The league said Tuesday that Blackmon may participate in the preseason and will be eligible to return to the active roster on Sept. 30, the day after the Jaguars play Indianapolis.

Blackmon was a first-round draft choice in 2012 out of Oklahoma State.

Last season he caught 64 passes for 865 yards and five touchdowns (see full story).

Geno Smith fires agent
After free-falling out of the first round, Geno Smith has parted ways with his agents at Select Sports Group, according to SportsBusiness Journal's Liz Mullen (via ProFootballTalk).

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Smith fired his agents because he believed he "would be and should be" the No. 1 pick.

However, in an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, Smith said his decision to fire his agent had nothing to do with the draft process but wouldn't "shed too much light on it."

Smith will have to wait five days before being able to hire new representation.
