FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New York Jets defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson is facing legal troubles after being charged Thursday in St. Charles County, Missouri, with resisting arrest and traffic violations on July 14 -- just two weeks after his NFL-issued four-game drug suspension.

According to a release issued by the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, Richardson was driving at "exceedingly high rates of speed" on Interstate 64 in "what appeared to be a road race." In the police incident report, an officer stated that Richardson took off at speeds as high as 143 mph. Richardson eventually exited the car, along with two adult passengers and a 12-year-old boy. A fully loaded semi-automatic handgun was found underneath the driver's floor mat, and the car smelled of marijuana.

Richardson was issued summonses, and was ordered to appear in St. Charles County Circuit Court on Oct. 27 for arraignment (see full story).

Bears: Jennings pleads guilty to reckless driving
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- Chicago Bears cornerback Tim Jennings pleaded guilty to reckless driving stemming from an arrest in Georgia in January.

Karla White, office manager of the Gwinnett County Recorder's Court clerk in Georgia, said Thursday that Jennings was sentenced to 40 hours of community service and must complete a substance abuse program. He paid a $1,147 fine.

A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Jennings was charged with DUI, speeding and reckless driving in early January after he was clocked driving a 2015 Mercedes 99 mph in a 65 mph zone on an Atlanta-area freeway. Police said he told an officer he was running late for a parent-teacher conference.

The DUI charge was dismissed. Jennings pleaded no contest to speeding.

Jennings had an excused absence from camp Thursday. He could face disciplinary action by the NFL.
