Nick Foles, already having a terrible game, left the field late in the third quarter against Dallas and went back to the locker room to be examined for a concussion.

With starting quarterback Mike Vick inactive from a hamstring injury (see story), the Eagles turned to rookie Matt Barkley, who entered the game and made his NFL debut on the team’s first drive of the fourth quarter.

Shortly after Foles left, the Eagles announced that he was out for the game.

Barkley, the fourth-round pick from USC, was the No. 2 quarterback for the second straight week. He completed his first NFL pass, a six-yarder to wideout Jason Avant, but was picked off by Sean Lee to end his first drive.

Foles, who passed for 296 yards last Sunday in Tampa to beat the Bucs, completed just 11 of 29 passes for 80 yards before leaving. On his final play, he was sacked by Jarius Wynn and George Selvie for a four-yard loss on 3rd-and-9. Foles was sacked twice in the game.

After an impressive effort against Tampa that led to speculation that he could usurp Vick to be the starter, Foles fell flat on his face. He missed targets all over the field and had the worst game of his pro career (see 10 observations).

Foles badly underthrew Avant in the end zone in the third quarter after DeMeco Ryans had returned an interception to the Dallas 30-yard line.
