Prospect Watch: Top 20 NFL mock draft

Share

With the Eagles' draft position plummeting (good thing), here's a mock draft reflecting their current position. Draft order courtesy of Over the Cap.

1. Jacksonville Jaguars -- Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon, No. 8
My top QB prospect, the redshirt sophomore signal caller throws with velocity and accuracy and has sprinter's speed. The total package, and a player the Jags can build an identity around. Don't fret about the Stanford game. That's just a darn good defense.

2. Atlanta Falcons -- Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina, No. 7
The Falcons let John Abraham walk before the season and haven't found anyone to even remotely provide a pass rush in his place. Clowney is the best pass rusher in this class, hands down.

3. Minnesota Vikings -- Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville, No. 5
Unless Christian Ponder miraculously turns into Tommy Kramer these last few weeks, the Vikes need to cut bait and start anew. Bridgewater is the safest bet at QB in the draft.

4. Houston Texans -- Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M, No. 2 (LSU vs. Texas A&M, 3:30 p.m., CBS)
I know I'll get flack for this pick, but the Texans will part ways with Matt Schaub this offseason, and while I like Case Keenum, he's not a long-term solution. Manziel has his faults (size being the biggest), but there's no doubting his physical skills and the fan interest he'd generate.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M, No. 75 (LSU vs. Texas A&M, 3:30 p.m., CBS)
While Donald Penn continues to be a warrior at LT, the Bucs need to find a long-term answer to protect Mike Glennon's blind side.

6. St. Louis Rams (f/WSH) -- Anthony Barr, LB/DE, UCLA, No. 11 (UCLA vs. Arizona State, 7 p.m., FOX)
Although LB isn't a top need for the Rams, Barr is too good to pass up here. Could be the next Von Miller.

7. Buffalo Bills -- Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan, No. 77
The Bills are putting a decent core together but still need to find stability on the offensive line. Lewan could kick LT Cordy Glenn inside to OG and give E.J. Manuel a strong front line.

8. Pittsburgh Steelers -- Cameron Erving, OT, Florida State, No. 75
The Steelers' offensive line is a mess, and they could use upgrades at both tackle spots. Erving is an athletic wonder with the size and quickness to handle the left side.

9. Cleveland Browns -- Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State, No. 4
Brandon Weeden is a bust, and the Browns can't hope to contend long-term with Brian Hoyer or Jason Campbell. Carr has come on strong this year and has all the tools to be a very good starting QB.

10. Baltimore Ravens -- Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo, No. 46
Terrell Suggs is not getting any younger, and the Ravens' defense is not the menace it once was. Mack is a small-school kid with big-school talent. He's equally strong at rushing the passer as he is playing the run.

11. Tennessee Titans -- Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson, No. 2
Assuming Jake Locker can stay healthy, the Titans need to give him additional weapons to work with. Watkins is an electric playmaker who could team with Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter to form a dangerous trio.

12. Oakland Raiders -- C.J. Mosley, LB, Alabama, No. 32
The Raiders didn't fare well with the last Alabama LB they took in the first round (Rolando McClain, 2010), but that shouldn't stop them from grabbing Mosley to man the middle for them.

13. St. Louis Rams -- Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama, No. 71
Right tackle Rodger Saffold will be a free agent at the end of the season, and the raw Kouandjio could slip right in as the starter alongside veteran LT Jake Long.

14. San Diego Chargers -- Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M, No. 13 (LSU vs. Texas A&M, 3:30 p.m., CBS)
The Bolts haven't had a true No. 1 receiver since Vincent Jackson left. Evans has the size/speed ratio teams love and will give Philip Rivers a go-to guy.

15. New York Giants -- Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB, Oregon, No. 14
Prince Amukumara and Corey Webster are adequate, but neither are going to challenge the elite receivers of the NFL. Ekpre-Olomu has the size and speed to compete against the Dez Bryants and Pierre Garcons of the NFC East.

16. Green Bay Packers -- Antonio Richardson, OT, Tennessee, No. 74 (Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt, 7 p.m., ESPN2)
The Packers' offensive line seems to be in a constant state of flux. Richardson is a solid, if not spectacular, OT who can play either side of the line -- and even inside at guard.

17. New York Jets -- Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama, No. 6
The Jets' defense is solid across the board but could use an upgrade at safety. Clinton-Dix is the top safety prospect in the draft and will make facing that young Gang Green defense even scarier.

18. Miami Dolphins -- Marqise Lee, WR, USC, No. 9
The Dolphins need to give Ryan Tannehill more weapons. Lee is a step below Evans and Watkins but should still make a big impact in the NFL.

19. Dallas Cowboys -- David Yankey, OG, Stanford, No. 54
The Cowboys' interior line is a mess, especially at OG. Yankey is the best OG in the draft and should instantly improve Dallas' run game.

20. Philadelphia Eagles -- Trent Murphy, OLB, Stanford, No. 93
The Eagles' defense is steadily improving under Billy Davis but still doesn't get enough pressure from outside linebackers Trent Cole, Connor Barwin and Brandon Graham. Barwin is going to be here in 2014, but there's no guarantee either Cole or Graham will return. Murphy isn't quite the pass rusher Clemson's Vic Beasley is, but he's a much better all-around player. He's terrific against the run and can hold his own against RBs and TEs in coverage. He has the ideal size (6-6/260) for the position and is tough as nails. One of my favorite players in the draft.
