Quick Slants: Can Eagles run against Cardinals?

Share

The Arizona Cardinals possess the NFL's best rushing defense as opponents average just 72.5 yards per game on the ground.

As successful as they are against the run, they've struggled against the pass. The Cardinals have given up 284.8 yards through the air, which ranks 31st in the league.

As a result, the Eagles may rely on the arm of Nick Foles.

"I think Chip Kelly's offense is the type of offense that they're going to take what the defense is giving them," Brian Westbrook said on Tuesday's edition of Quick Slants.

"I don't think they'll go out of their way to establish the run."

LeSean McCoy struggled his way to 2.9 yards per carry through the first five weeks of the season.

Though the statuses of Darren Sproles (sprained MCL) and Chris Polk (hamstring) are uncertain for Sunday, McCoy may be coming back to his old form.

He ran for 149 yards on 22 carries against the Giants in Week 6, and had some time to rest during the Week 7 bye.

"I think LeSean McCoy ran harder, was able to break some tackles, he looked much more assertive when he had the ball in his hands," Westbrook said.

"I think he was tired of everyone saying that he wasn't himself, and maybe had lost a step."

McCoy has rushed for 230 yards on 46 carries (5.0 ypc) with a touchdown in his last three contests versus Arizona.
