Quick Slants: Jeremy Maclin vs. Richard Sherman

Will the Eagles challenge Richard Sherman on Sunday when they face the Seahawks at the Linc?

Sherman reminded everyone how dominant he could be in the Seahawks' Week 13 victory over the 49ers, when he grabbed two interceptions and helped Seattle limit Colin Kaepernick to only 121 yards passing.

The Eagles earlier this week insisted they will not be afraid to challenge Sherman, but Wednesday on Quick Slants, CSNPhilly.com's Reuben Frank said he wouldn't expect a big game from Jeremy Maclin, the team's leading receiver and one most likely to be guarded by Sherman.

"You want to take a couple shots," Frank said, "but for the most part I think you're going to see a lot of Jordan Matthews, you're going to see stuff in the slot, the tight ends, the backs.

"This [Seahawks] defense does not give up big plays."

The Eagles will be forced to grind it out against a defense that has not given up a touchdown in its last eight quarters of play. That will likely leave little room for Maclin to be a major factor.

Last week, Maclin eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career, continuing a season in which he has seamlessly slid into the No. 1 receiver role.

Sherman's only other interception of the season came against the offensively inept Raiders and rookie QB Derek Carr, but his 23 interceptions since his rookie season in 2011 are eight more than any other player has in that span.
