Quick Slants: Which Eagle should get next extension?

The Eagles locked up Mychal Kendricks on Monday with a four-year contract extension.

Kendricks admitted Tuesday that it was a “huge” relief to finally get the deal done. Even defensive coordinator Bill Davis could see that the fourth-year linebacker was stressed by the uncertainty hanging over his contract situation.

Who should be the next Eagles player to have that weight lifted from his shoulders?

On Quick Slants Tuesday, Rhea Hughes said that player should be Fletcher Cox, “no question.”

“Not only is he the Eagles’ best defensive player, he may just be their best player, period,” Hughes said. “There’s no question he’s the cornerstone of your defense. Stats don’t really tell the answer, and it was kind of criminal he didn’t get into the Pro Bowl last year.”

Derrick Gunn stayed on the defensive side of the ball, saying Vinny Curry should be the next player the Eagles lock up long-term.

“I think he’s just that talented in terms of giving the Eagles something extra in terms of that pass rusher,” Gunn said, citing Curry’s nine official sacks while playing 33 percent of the snaps last season.
