Quick Slants: Who will be Eagles' most impactful newcomer?

Head coach Chip Kelly has made his presence felt over the course of an active offseason, giving the Eagles a new look on both sides of the ball.

The new faces have made their way to Philly via free agency, the draft and trades. But which newcomer will have the biggest impact on the field in their first year with the Eagles?

Wednesday on Quick Slants, Rhea Hughes and Derrick Gunn looked to opposite sides of the ball for their most impactful newcomers. Hughes went with second-round pick (No. 47 overall) defensive back Eric Rowe out of the University of Utah.

“I just think his versatility, the way they will be able to use him, there’s no way that he can be worse than what they had last year,” Hughes said. “In this division with all of the explosive wide receivers that are in it, I just think this guy will have the most impact since Day 1 until the end of the season when it comes to newcomers, in terms of especially draft picks.”

Gunn turned his attention toward the offense and running back Demarco Murray, who was acquired as a free agent via a five-year, $40 million contract.

“This guy is your workhorse,” Gunn said. “We know he’s going to run football. We also assume he’s going to run the football inside the five a lot times as well.

“But I think he’s going to get a few touches in the pass-catching department. I think one of the facts overlooked about him is he’s not a bad pass catcher.”
