Report: Eagles working out quarterback Jared Goff

The Eagles' due diligence on quarterbacks in this year's NFL draft continued Monday.

According to former scout and Bay Area analyst John Middlekauff, the Eagles are going to be in Berkeley, California, today to work out former Cal quarterback Jared Goff.

That would explain why Howie Roseman and Doug Pederson were on a plane bound for San Francisco earlier in the day.

The Eagles' working out Goff shouldn't come as much of a surprise. The team's brass has repeatedly said it was going to take a quarterback at some point in the draft next month, and Goff is one of the top ones available.

Now, it's unclear if Goff will still be on the board when the Eagles are on the clock at pick No. 8. Along with North Dakota State's Carson Wentz, Goff (6-foot-4, 215) is considered to be one of the top quarterbacks in the draft.

At the NFL owners' meetings last week in Boca Raton, Florida, Pederson said he was looking forward to diving into his research of the quarterbacks available. He said he wanted to take a look at some of the top guys but preferred private workouts to organized pro days.

Last week, Pederson made it seem like the Eagles wouldn't use their first-round pick on a quarterback, but if they want Goff, they'll have to — they might even have to trade up. Here's what Pederson said last week when asked if quarterback was a possibility at 8:

“Oh, I don’t know about that. But I know if you’re looking for that third quarterback, then there’s some good ones in this draft. Taking out the top three, there’s still some guys in there that you can develop that would be good fits as a number three.”
