Report: Falcons sign veteran guard Chris Chester

After being released by Washington on Wednesday, veteran guard Chris Chester signed a one-year, $2.8 million contract with the Falcons on Friday night, according to ESPN.com.

A league source confirmed to CSNPhilly.com Friday afternoon Chester had a visit scheduled with the Eagles but never met with the team.

Chester decided to sign with Atlanta instead before meeting with Chip Kelly and the Eagles.

The 32-year-old is a nine-year veteran who has started all 64 games the last four years with Washington after spending his first five years with the Ravens.

With Todd Herremans released in the offseason and Evan Mathis absent from voluntary OTAs, the Eagles may need to replace both of their starting guards from last season.

Since Mathis wasn't at OTAs, the Eagles had Allen Barbre taking first-team reps at left guard while Matt Tobin and Andrew Gardner split reps at right guard.
