Adirondack Phantoms to Just Go Ahead and Wing It on Opening Night

As the Phantoms have vacated the space we now use to park so as to drink and eat at themed bars and restaurants, keeping track of the affiliate has proved less convenient.

Of course, they're scheduled to move from Glens Falls, N.Y. to the Lehigh Valley in October of next year -- although construction on their new arena is apparently months behind schedule -- so catching some AHL action will soon be no different than taking the trip to an IronPigs game.

In honor of their (potentially) final season in Glens Falls and in tribute to the town's past minor league history, the Phantoms will wear these throwback uniforms (seen right) for their home opener on Oct. 13 in homage to the Adirondack Red Wings, who used to occupy the Civic Center. The jerseys will be available via live auction after the game.

"Last year on Opening Night, our fans loved how we spelled out ADIRONDACK across the front and we received a lot of positive feedback asking us to do that again" said Phantoms Executive Vice President Chris Porreca. "For this year, we are also incorporating the traditional colors of the former Adirondack Red Wings which we know our fans will really enjoy."

The Opening Night Red Wings style jersey is just the first of the alternate jerseys being designed for the upcoming season. Fans can expect a wide variety of creative looks for some of the upcoming special home games this season.

I don't know much about him, but I'm sure hoping this Player kid can skate the blue line.

Penn can't stop Chase Edmonds in loss to Fordham

BOX SCORE

NEW YORK -- Chase Edmonds ran for 152 yards, added 49 yards receiving, and scored four total touchdowns to help lead Fordham to a 31-17 win over Penn on Saturday.

Kevin Anderson threw for 231 yards and one TD and Austin Longi added 92 yards receiving for the Rams (2-1).

Edmonds scored three times in the first half and Fordham opened up a 24-10 lead at halftime.

Penn responded late in the third on an Alek Torgersen 2-yard plunge which cut the score to 24-17. The Quakers (0-2) had an opportunity to tie it late but were turned away on downs at the Fordham 27-yard line.

Edmonds added his fourth score on the ensuing drive to put the game out of reach.

Torgersen had 125 yards passing for Penn.

Fordham has won three straight in the series and is now 25-2 at home since 2012, third best in FCS during that time frame.

Tonight's Lineup: Jorge Alfaro catches, bats 8th vs. Mets

Jorge Alfaro is behind the plate for the Phillies tonight and bats eighth. Alfaro has appeared in just four games since being called up earlier this month, and has just one hit in 10 at-bats.

Tommy Joseph is back in the lineup and batting fifth. Pete Mackanin has said that Ryan Howard would get a lot of playing time during the last few games, but it is Joseph who gets the start tonight. Joseph is batting just .154 against the Mets this season.

Odubel Herrera, who has been hitting well in September, will remain in the three spot. He has two homers and is batting .391 over the past week. Herrera has two hits in six at-bats against Mets' starter Sean Gilmartin.
