Caps Dominant Third Period Earn Washington an Easy Win

The Flyers and Caps played each other tough through two periods before things unraveled in the third period. You might even say the Flyers outplayed the Caps for the first 40 minutes, but it didn't show on the scoreboard which showed Washington leading 2-1 after two periods.

This one got out of hand in a hurry, however, in the third period when the Caps scored 3 more goals in the first 4 minutes of the period putting this one out of reach and sending many fans over to ESPN2 to see what the Union had cooking. Turns out, not much from that Philly squad tonight either. [highlights below]

Looking at the final score, you might want to pint this one on Ilya Bryzgalov, but by no means did he get any help from his defense. Time after time, the Flyers made bad clears or bad crossing passes that were a cinch for the Capitals to takeaway and turn into scoring opportunities.

Whether it was a lack of chemistry from Lavy mixing up his lines a bit or not, the Flyers didn't look sharp moving the puck on Thursday night.

On the bright side? At least we got to see Giroux play with a puck and a goalie:
