Uh Oh: The Penguins Have Acquired Jarome Iginla

Share

The Pittsburgh Penguins have won 13 games in a row ... and they just added Jarome Iginla.

The Penguins shipped overnight their 2013 first-round pick and the rights to two college players, Kenneth Agostino and Ben Hanowski, to the Calgary Flames for Iginla.

Nice deal.

Credit to Penguins GM Ray Shero for somehow managing how to make Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Marc-Andre Fleury, James Neal, Brooks Orpik, Chris Kunitz, Kris Letang, and the recent additions of Brenden Morrow and Douglas Murray all fit under the salary cap ... oh, plus Iginla.

Here's PuckDaddy comparing the trade to some of the all-time great fleecings in sports history.

Here's Yahoo's Nick Cotsonika explaining why a trade like this isn't even supposed to be possible in an NHL with a hard salary cap.

Here's TSN's Bob McKenzie with the news that the Flames actually had a better deal in place with the Boston Bruins, but that Iginla wouldn't waive his no-trade clause, wanting to go to Pittsburgh instead.

Here's PensBlog rejoicing.

Here's John Buccigross with a stat you don't really want to see:
