I won’t pretend to know a lot about Fred Shero other than what I’ve read in history books or seen in documentaries. His NHL coaching career was over before I was born, and he passed away in 1990 when I was still a child.

I know the important stuff though. Shero was behind the bench when the Philadelphia Flyers won the Stanley Cup in 1974 and again in ’75, and fans and analysts alike have been clamoring for his addition to the Hockey Hall of Fame for a long time.

That long overdue honor finally came to pass on Monday, as Fred’s son and general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins Ray Shero inducted his father into the Hall as part of the class of 2013. In case you missed it, you can check out the speech below along with Bobby Clarke's introduction.
