Could Vinny Lecavalier end up an Ottawa Senator?
The Sens traded away an unhappy Jason Spezza this week, and the Flyers continue to scour the planet for a soft landing spot for a veteran center that deserves better at this point in his career.
Lecavalier has four years left on a contract he signed last summer in free agency that has an annual cap hit of $4.5 million.
Flyers general manager Ron Hextall continues to chat with clubs, and has revisited Nashville in recent days, but he's getting the same answer there he got before: No deal unless the Flyers pick up far more money from Lecavalier's contract than they are willing.
At present, the Flyers are willing to take on only $1 million per year, a source said. That may be why Hextall has now turned his attention to Ottawa.
Sens GM Bryan Murray may be willing to take Lecavalier, but league sources say he wants the Flyers to pick up a hefty portion of the contract and he also wants something in return -- most likely another player or draft pick.
“Philly won’t pick up a good portion of the contract with many teams,” a source said, which is why the Flyers are struggling to move Lecavalier.
