One of the reasons general manager Paul Holmgren rushed to have break-up day on Sunday instead of Monday, he said, was to assist players going overseas to the World Championships.

The actual tournament games begin this May in Stockholm and Helsinki.

The Flyers have a strong contingent of four players headed for Team Canada.

“Yeah, it’s a good experience,” Flyers captain Claude Giroux said. “You put that Canadian flag on your jersey, it’s going to be nice. Anytime you get to play for your country, it’s obviously a pretty big honor.”

There are six Flyers and two prospects going to Europe:

Team Canada:
Giroux, Matt Read, Wayne Simmonds and Luke Schenn

Team USA:
Cal Heeter

Team Denmark:
Oliver Lauridsen

Czech Republic:
Jakub Voracek

Team Germany:
Marcel Noebels
