Flyers hold team meeting after yet another pitiful loss

CALGARY, Alberta — After losing yet another road game, their 29th out of 38 (including overtime/shootouts), the Flyers' players called a team meeting without the coaches.

The latest loss saw a close game — 2-1 in the third — become a rout (see game story)

The timing is strange given their season is over.

“I can’t give you an answer,” Jakub Voracek said. “It should stay in the locker room. We had a team meeting and talked about it. We have to finish the last nine strong.”

They fell apart in the final period, as has happened too often this season. And they lacked for goal support, as well.

Goalie Steve Mason wasn’t happy at being pulled.

“I was happy with the way my game was going,” he said, adding that if coach Craig Berube were unhappy with his one five-hole goal, he had not said that to him personally. “Aside from the one goal, I was making some good saves.”

Umberger update
Forward R.J. Umberger underwent successful surgery at the Navy Yard on Wednesday to repair his right hip and bilateral abdomen. He will miss the remainder of the season and has a 10-week recovery ahead.
