Flyers Injury Update: Grossmann could return Saturday

VOORHEES, N.J. — There could be one Flyers lineup change for Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs and it’s not entirely unexpected.

Defenseman Nick Grossmann finally appears ready to return after missing nine games recovering from a soft-tissue injury to his right shoulder.

He was slammed hard into the boards by Washington’s Tom Wilson on Jan. 8 but escaped what could have been a shoulder dislocation.

“It’s up in the air yet, I’ve got to see tomorrow,” coach Craig Berube said. “The only guy [who could play] is Grossmann. He looked good today.”

Grossmann appeared ready to play against Winnipeg earlier and didn’t. He said Friday that he’s closer.

“Just taking it a day at a time,” he said. “Every day it’s getting better. That’s the way we want to. We haven’t made any decisions for tomorrow.”

He also changed his mind about extra padding under the shoulder pad.

“It’s tough to tape it and we can’t put more padding there,” he said.

The Flyers are trying to win their fourth straight game, which would be a season first.

Not playing
Scott Laughton (concussion) remains out, but practiced and did not report any post-concussion symptoms. … Michael Raffl is still out. He has some type of upper respiratory infection, based on what general manager Ron Hextall said Thursday night. Raffl has missed two games.
