WASHINGTON — A day after Dave Hakstol wouldn't say Steve Mason was injured, the Flyers on Wednesday announced that the goalie is out for tonight's game against the Capitals with a lower-body injury.

It's unknown when or how Mason suffered the injury. The 27-year-old did not participate in Monday's morning skate or Tuesday's optional practice. When asked after Tuesday's practice if Mason was hurt, Hakstol said, “Optional day today. ... To my knowledge there is nothing to that. It’s an optional day.”

At Wednesday's morning skate, Mason said the injury is "not too serious."

"We're in the stretch here where we have a little bit of time to take advantage of some rest," he said. "That's what we're doing."

With Mason out, the Flyers recalled goalie Jason LaBarbera from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on emergency conditions Wednesday. Michal Neuvirth will start against Washington.

Also, Sean Couturier will miss his third straight game with a lower-body injury.
