During his time here with the Flyers, goalie Ilya Bryzgalov has made it known how much he hates the shootout.
 
It’s hasn’t been good to him.
 
Friday night, the Flyers won a shootout in which Bryzgalov made a critical poke save on David Clarkson during a 2-1 victory.
 
“I didn’t have a plan, I just reacted to his action,” he said of the save.
 
Bryzgalov won just 3 of 8 shootouts last year and is now 23-28 lifetime.
 
“I guess it’s the first [win] this season,” Bryzgalov said. “Like I said, every win has extra value.”
 
The Flyers need some “oomph” if they’re going to defy the odds and make a run to snare a playoff berth.
 
Maybe this shootout win does that for them. Maybe it gives them something to carry over and develop into a win streak.
 
“You would like to think for everyone, especially Bryzgalov,” coach Peter Laviolette said. “I don’t think it was just the shootout.
 
“His game was solid from the start to the end, which includes the shootout. It includes the players as well. It was one game and we need to win more. It is something to build off of.”

Back on Jan. 22, Brayden Schenn jumped up on his skates to charge into New Jersey’s Anton Volchenkov, earning himself a one-game suspension even though there was no penalty assessed on the play.
 
Late in the third period of this game, the young Flyers forward had a similar hit on Devils defenseman Peter Harrold.
 
This time, he was tagged with a two-minute minor for charging.
 
Though that alone would likely not cause the NHL to review the play, the fact Schenn had a suspension on a similar hit virtually guarantees that the league office will review it on Saturday.
 
Recalled

Harry Zolnierczyk was recalled from the Phantoms for the  purpose of serving Game 3 of his four-game suspension.
 
The club would like him on the roster for Monday’s game in Tampa Bay, as well, to finish off the suspension.

The Flyers are 1-1 in shootouts this season and 24-42 lifetime:  “It’s been frustrating for all of us,” Briere said of shootouts. “Those are a lot of points left on the table because we have not been too successful on it. It doesn’t matter. All we cared about was this one tonight.” ... The Flyers outhit the Devils, 37-23.  Luke Schenn recorded nine hits, while Zac Rinaldo added six in just 8:25 of ice time. ... The Flyers were 0-for-4 on the power play but their penalty kill was a perfect 5-for-5.
