The Flyers on Friday announced their first two signings of the offseason, and neither was a surprise.
As has been widely reported, the club inked overage junior defenseman Maxim Lamarche, who turns 21 in July, and 24-year-old Austrian right wing, Michael Raffl.
Lamarche played the last four years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for Baie-Commeau Drakkar.
He’s 6-foot-3, 218 pounds with a right-handed shot. Lamarche scored nine goals with 43 points in 55 games last season in the QMJHL, an improvement over his 25 points the season before.
Raffl played the past two seasons for Leksands IF, which is Swedish Division One - a notch below the Swedish Elite League.
He scored 24 goals with 46 points in 49 games this season in Sweden, is 6-feet and 192 pounds.
The last Austrian the Flyers had on their roster was Andreas Nodl. He was the organization’s only Austrian-born player ever drafted by the club (2006).
Lamarche and Raffl are both expected to play with the Phantoms this coming fall.
