Right wing Wayne Simmonds is doubtful for tonight's game at the Wells Fargo Center against the Florida Panthers, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.
Simmonds, who sustained a concussion after taking an elbow to the face Feb. 1 from Capitals defenseman John Erskine, was back at practice Wednesday but was wearing a yellow "no-contact" jersey. He said he felt fine after skating (see story) and has not experienced any headaches, but that it was ultimately up to the Flyers' medical staff to determine when he would be able to return.
Since the hit, Simmonds has missed games against the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning. The Flyers won both games.
The team, however, does miss Simmonds, who is a scrappy, strong net presence and has two goals (three assists) on the season. His spot on the top line, however, has been taken over by rookie Tye McGinn, who has found some success alongside Claude Giroux and Danny Briere.
