Flyers' Briere out indefinitely with back injury

Flyers forward Danny Briere is out indefinitely with an upper-back contusion.

Briere was on the receiving end of a hit from Pittsburgh's Joe Vitale toward the end of Sunday afternoon's matchup. After the hit, which was deemed clean, Briere immediately left the ice and went down the tunnel to the Flyers' locker room. Nonetheless, the injury comes as a surprise.

It's been a disappointing season for Briere, who also missed time earlier this season with a concussion suffered in New Jersey. Nonetheless, the scrappy center is still fourth on the team with 49 points. He'd been playing much better as of late, and had nine points in his last five games.

Defenseman Nicklas Grossmann is also out for seven to 10 days with a lower-body injury. Like Briere, Grossmann too left Sunday's game at the hands of Vitale, with whom he went knee-to-knee early in the game.
