The Flyers on Tuesday relieved Joe Paterson of his duties as head coach of the Adirondack Phantoms, the teams American Hockey League affiliate.

A replacement has yet to be named.

As an organization, we feel the Phantoms need a new voice moving forward, said general manager Paul Holmgren. We would like to thank Joe for his hard work and service to the Phantoms over the past season and a half, but we feel a new direction is needed at this time.

Paterson was named coach of the Phantoms on Dec. 20, 2010. He led the team to a 37-35-2-2 record this season, finishing five points out of playoff contention. In 125 games with Paterson at the helm, the Phantoms compiled a 62-55-8 record.

Paterson spent nine seasons in the NHL, including two years with the Flyers in the mid-'80s.
