The New York Rangers on Tuesday added some veteran presence to their lineup.

According to TSN.ca, the Blueshirts signed forward Jeff Halpern to a one-year contract reportedly worth 700,000.

The 36-year-old has played 12 NHL seasons for the Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals (two stints).

Halpern, a solid two-way player, has 358 points in 861 career games.

Lightning extend Purcell
The Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday announced they've signed right winger Teddy Purcell to a three-year extension.

Purcell had a career-year in 2011-12, registering 24 goals and 41 assists in 81 games with the Bolts.

The 26-year-old has appeared in 272 career games with the Lightning and the Los Angeles Kings.

The contract runs from 2013-14 to 2015-16. Details of the extension were not immediately known.

Parise, Suter already alternate captains
The Minnesota Wild introduced their two newest stars -- defenseman Ryan Suter and forward Zach Parise -- on Monday.

As pointed out by ProHockeyTalk, the Wild also introduced their two newest alternate captains when Suter and Parise put on their new threads.

You don't make the type of commitment for these types of players unless you bring in two quality human beings, Wild coach Mike Yeo said. What they do on the ice speaks for itself, but what they will add to our group from a leadership and character standpointtheyre going to play a huge role for us, and were expecting them to be leaders for a long time.

The huge commitment Yeo is referring to probably has something to do with the matching 13-year, 98 million contracts both Parise and Suter signed last Wednesday.

Last season, Matt Cullen and Dany Heatley served as alternate captains under Mikko Koivu.
