After scoring five goals in his last four games, Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds has been named the NHLs First Star of the Week.

Following a 16-game stretch during which he was scoreless, the Flyers 23-year-old wiry forward came to life last week. He scored two goals in the Flyers commanding 7-1 victory in Toronto over the Maple Leafs, and followed it up by scoring a goal with his face in Saturdays 4-3 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators.

Despite leaving the ice with his face bloodied, Simmonds missed just a few minutes of Saturdays second period before returning to the game. He received about six stitches in the area above his nose and across his right eyebrow.

Simmonds wasnt done, though. He capped off the weekend with a big goal in Sundays come-from-behind 6-4 win in Pittsburgh.

Second Star honors went to Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara. Mike Smith, goaltender for the Phoenix Coyotes, was the week's Third Star.
