Source: Pens working to acquire Suter's rights

PITTSBURGH -- Will Ryan Suters rights be moved? Will Phoenix trade Keith Yandle?

Those two questions sit atop the agenda in the second day of the NHL draft at the CONSOL Energy Center.

A source told CSNPhilly.com early Saturday morning that Penguins general manager Ray Shero is working hard to get Suters rights from Nashville.

Even though Suter has expressed specific interest in staying in the Western Conferenceand going to either Detroit or Minnesota in free agencyShero feels he has strong ties to Suter as having served as an assistant GM between 1998-2006 when the Predators first came into the NHL.

Ray feels he can talk Suter into coming to Pittsburgh, the source said.

Shero is the guy who drafted Suter in 2003.

Pittsburgh cleared about 6 million in salary cap space on Friday in the Jordan Staal trade to Carolina. The Penguins would also like a shot at Devils forward Zach Parise, but theyd have to get creative with their cap in order to handle his expected jump in salary this summer.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren spoke to Nashville GM David Poile for a while Friday night.

The Flyers have interest in Suter as well, but sources continue to say he is not interested in coming to Philadelphia.

As for the Flyers, a Western Conference source confirmed that the Flyers and Red Wings both have significant interest in Keith Yandle.

Phoenix isnt actively shopping him but they said they would listen to offers and they need an impact center in return, the source said.

Thus far, the Flyers have avoided the temptation to part with either Brayden Schenn or Sean Couturier in either deals for Rick Nash or Bobby Ryan.

Yandle? Well, the 25-year-old would give the Flyers some real jam on the back end, which they desperately need.

That would likely change the Flyers reluctance to part with a young center.
