The left winger, who played 11 seasons with the Flyers, announced his retirement on Tuesday.

“Today, I want to thank my trainers and teammates,” Gagne said in a statement. “You inspired me to surpass myself. You made me understand that you need more than talent; it takes sacrifice and discipline and you need to work harder than your rivals. I also wish to thank my fans. Every evening, you energized me and inspired me to perform.”

Overall, Gagne played 14 seasons in the NHL, recording 601 points in 882 games. He won the Stanley Cup in 2011-12 with the Los Angeles Kings.

The 35-year-old, a first-round draft pick (22nd overall) of the Flyers in 1998, is ninth on the franchise's all-time list in goals (264) and 10th in points (535) and games played (691).

After parts of three seasons away from the Flyers, Gagne returned to the organization in 2012-13 when he was acquired in a trade with the Kings. He played his final season with the Bruins last year, appearing in 23 games.
