Future Flyers Report: Philippe Myers quietly having great year

We continue our weekly check-in on the Flyers’ prospects currently playing in the AHL, overseas or at the junior and college levels.

The 2015-16 IIHF Under-20 World Championship is still taking place in Helsinki, Finland. We’ll have a full wrap evaluating the seven youngsters participating in that tournament when it concludes in a few day.

For now, let’s take a look at some other prospects. Here we go!

Philippe Myers, D, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
With the plethora of defensive prospects in the Flyers' system, it's easy to forget about Myers. He's doing all he can to stand out, however. The 6-foot-5, 209-pounder appeared in four games for the Huskies last week, collecting a goal and three assists. Myers is currently riding an eight-game point streak in which he's totaled two markers and eight helpers. He's no slouch in his own end, either. GM Ron Hextall may have found a serious sleeper. Especially now that Myers has added an offensive element to his game. He has 10 goals and 19 assists in 37 games for Rouyn-Noranda this year. He had just two goals and six assists in 60 games last season. What a turnaround.

Anthony Stolarz, G, Lehigh Valley Phantoms
It had to be a frustrating week for Stolarz. The towering goalie did all he could to give the Phantoms a chance to win against Binghamton on Tuesday, making 39 total saves, but he received little support in a 2-1 loss. Then, on Saturday, he took the loss after allowing four goals on 32 shots in an overtime loss to Portland. Though he's surrendered four goals in four of his last six starts, Stolarz still has tremendous numbers in 2015-16. He's 12-7-3 with a 2.18 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in 23 games.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel, C/RW, Val-d'Or Foreurs
Aube-Kubel, when healthy, has been lights out for Val-d'Or this season. He picked up a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Blainville-Boisbriand on Monday and scored again in a 5-2 victory over Drummondville on Wednesday to extend his point-scoring streak to 15 games. He recorded an eye-popping 13 goals and 18 assists during that stretch but was finally held off the scoresheet in a 4-0 win Thursday. Not to worry. He was right back to work in the Foreurs' next outing, recording his 23rd marker of the season in a 4-2 victory over Myers and Rouyn-Noranda on Sunday. In all, Aube-Kubel has 48 points and a plus-31 rating in 33 games in 2015-16.

Sam Morin, D, Lehigh Valley Phantoms
You can tell Morin is starting to feel more confident in his offensive abilities at the AHL level. The big blueliner has recorded an assist in each of his last three games and is jumping up on the play more often now. He needs to be careful not to get caught because he doesn't have the best foot speed, but it's encouraging to see him provide more. Morin now has two goals and 11 points this season.

Merrick Madsen, G, Harvard Crimson
Madsen, a sophomore netminder, won both of his starts over the weekend to clinch the championship of the 25th Annual Mariucci Classic for the Crimson. The 20-year-old made 34 saves on 36 shots in Harvard's win over Ferris State on New Year's Day and turned aside 26 more attempts in his team's 4-3 win over Minnesota in the championship game of the tourney Saturday. Madsen has not lost yet this season (seven wins, two ties) and owns a spectacular 1.32 goals-against average and insane .956 save percentage in nine starts.

Petr Straka, LW, Lehigh Valley Phantoms
Another up and down week for Straka. He collected an assist against Binghamton, was held in check vs. Hershey and scored his AHL-leading 17th goal of 2015-16 on Saturday. To cap it all off, Straka needed help getting off the ice late in Sunday's win over Portland after blocking a shot. Hopefully it's nothing serious. The 23-year-old ranks second on the Phantoms in scoring with 25 points in 36 games.

Mark Friedman, D, Bowling Green Falcons
After 18 days off, Friedman and Bowling Green were a bit rusty when they returned to action on Dec. 30 against Western Michigan. The sophomore defensemen failed to register a point in the Falcons' three games, two of which were losses, but did fire nine shots on goal. He also registered two blocks. But other than that, it was a relatively quiet week for Friedman, an active defenseman in all three zones.

Tyrell Goulbourne, LW, Lehigh Valley Phantoms
The energetic winger never stops. Goulbourne, as usual, was active for the Phantoms all week long, causing headaches on the forecheck and in front of the net. He dropped the gloves with Liam O'Brien against Hershey on Wednesday — his fourth fighting major of the season — and picked up an assist in each of his games over the weekend. Goulbourne's up to six goals and 12 points with just three minor penalties in 36 games this season.

Cooper Marody, C/RW, University of Michigan Wolverines
Marody is experiencing his first cold streak as a college hockey player. He was held pointless in back-to-back victories over Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech in the Great Lakes Invitational and now has just one assist in his last seven appearances for the Wolverines. The freshman forward is still having a solid campaign overall, however. He has seven goals and 13 points in his first 17 NCAA tilts.

Terrance Amorosa, D, Clarkson University
Busy week for Amorosa and the Golden Knights. After dropping games to UMass Lowell and Penn State in the Three Rivers Classic at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Clarkson split two games with Bowling Green on the road in a weekend back-to-back. Amorosa, a sophomore, earned two assists in the four contests. He's been limited to just eight games total in 2015-16 but has made an impact when in the lineup. He has one goal, six points, 10 shots and four blocks this season.

Danick Martel, LW, Lehigh Valley Phantoms
Martel was instrumental in helping Lehigh Valley to a 3-1 victory over Hershey on Wednesday, scoring two of his club's three goals. He picked up another marker — his 13th of the season — in Sunday's 2-1 win over Portland, too.
