BOX SCORE

On his seventh start of the season, Steve Mason finally cracked the win column.

The Flyers' starting goalie earned his first victory by turning away 35 shots in a 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

Mason had some goal support in this one, as Jakub Voracek scored twice in the first period and just missed a natural hat trick with a shot off the post in that stanza as well.

It was Voracek’s sixth multi-point game this season and temporarily tied him with Sidney Crosby for the NHL scoring lead (18 points).

The Oilers came into the game 4-0 against the Eastern Conference this season, but they have yet to win a road game (0-3-1).

Score first
Voracek’s goal 3:59 into the game represented just the third time in 12 games this season that the Flyers scored first.

Notable goals
Voracek’s second goal late in the first period began when Michael Del Zotto’s shot from the left circle was blocked by Oilers defenseman Jeff Petry. Voracek used his skate to stop the puck in the high slot and then ripped a shot past Viktor Fasth.

Milestone
Luke Schenn’s second-period goal was his 100th NHL point.

Goalie report
Mason had numerous tough saves and momentum stops which he had been lacking.

His best save came with 2:01 left in the second period after a Del Zotto turnover resulted in an odd-man rush. Mason slid across the net in time to deny David Perron’s one-timer with the Flyers ahead, 4-1.

He also had three saves during a third-period Oilers power play.

Power play
The Oilers were 0 for 4. The Flyers did not have a power play -- a very rare occurrence.

Penalty kill
The Flyers remained perfect at home. They have not given up a power-play goal at the Wells Fargo Center this season in 17 opposition chances.

Fights
Second-period draw between Zac Rinaldo and the Oilers’ Matt Hendricks.

Waived
The Flyers waived forward Blair Jones for purposes of assigning him to the Phantoms. They activated Carlo Colaiacovo but did not have to clear a roster spot.

Scratches
Defensemen Brandon Manning (healthy), Braydon Coburn (left foot) and Andrew MacDonald (right knee).

Up next
The Flyers host the Florida Panthers on Wednesday at the Wells Fargo Center. Despite a deeply depleted lineup last Saturday, the Panthers beat the Flyers 2-1 in Sunrise, Fla.
