BOX SCORE

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Flyers finished the month of October 4-4-2 following Thursday’s 4-3 loss to the Lightning at Amalie Arena.

Given their 0-2-2 start, it was a decent rebound as Craig Berube’s club captured 10 of a possible 20 points.

Ray Emery made his fourth straight start for the Flyers against Tampa’s Ben Bishop.

Steven Stamkos did the damage with two goals. His second at 5:30 of the third period made it 3-1 a minute before Jakub Voracek scored on a rebound of Brandon Manning’s point shot to make it close.

The Flyers got it to 4-3 in the final 53.5 seconds but could not force overtime.

The Flyers' last win in this building came Feb. 15, 2011 -- seven losses ago.

Notable goals
Stamkos' power-play goal with 45.7 seconds left in the second period was a shot only he could create. From the left circle, he wristed the puck over Emery’s left shoulder inside the far post. It was a beauty, and it gave the Lightning a 2-1 lead at intermission.

Goalie report
Emery, who saw his three-game win streak ended, had another strong game with 28 saves. He faced 22 shots through 40 minutes, including 13 in the second period. He was under siege at the very beginning, too, as the Flyers were outshot 5-0 early on.

Power play
The Flyers were 0 for 2, while the Lightning were 2 for 5.

Penalty kill
The Flyers were put to the test in the second period with five penalties. They killed off four of them. They came up short on the “too many men” call late in the game.

Snapped
Wayne Simmonds' first-period goal snapped a five-game point drought for him. He began the season with five goals and seven points in the first four games.

No replay
Tampa’s first goal from rookie Vladislav Namestnikov should not have counted. Replay showed the puck on Anton Stralman’s point shot was clearly on the other side of the blue line. It was offsides. No one saw it.

Fights
There were numerous scrums but no fights.

Scratches
Shayne Gostisbehere (healthy), Blair Jones (healthy), Braydon Coburn (left foot), Andrew MacDonald (right knee) and Vinny Lecavalier (left foot).

Up next
The Flyers will practice in South Florida on Halloween in preparation for Saturday’s game in Sunrise, Fla. against the Panthers.
