VANCOUVER, British Columbia – It’s been a good December for Michael Raffl.

The Flyers’ rookie forward was promoted to the team’s top line on Dec. 12. He’s had three multi-point games this month. Saturday night in Edmonton, he scored the game-winner in his first-ever shootout.

And now, he’s been named to Team Austria and will compete in the upcoming 2014 Olympic Games.

“It’s nice,” Rafflo told the Flyers’ official website. “The coach (Manny Viveiros) called me last week and told me ‘You’re going to be on the team,’ It’s exciting, It’s something I’m looking forward to.”

The 25-year-old rose from relative obscurity this summer, when the Flyers signed him to a one-year deal. He’s one of just three Austrians in the NHL, and both of the others -- New York Islanders forwards Tomas Vanek and Michael Grabner -- will join him on Autria’s roster.

He’s the first Flyer to know for sure he’ll be playing in the Olympics, though it’s possible the team could have at least six players heading to the games.

Team USA will announce its roster Jan. 1 at the Winter Classic. The deadline for all Olympic rosters is Jan. 7.
