Peter Laviolette sometimes will tweak his lines based on an opponent.

With that in mind, Laviolette plans to use Scott Hartnell with Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds on Tuesday night to face the Rangers.

Among the dozens of  line combinations the Flyers have used this season, this is one they have not tried.

Three guys who like to go to the net and get physical. Sort of the Flyers' version of a “Crash Line.”

Laviolette will never divulge why he puts certain players together in certain games, but this may have to do with the Rangers’ struggling defense in front of goalie Henrik Lundqvist now that Marc Staal is no longer in the crease to get physical.

Advantage to the Flyers.

“I’ve never played with either of them,” Hartnell said. “It will be interesting to see how the first few shifts unfold. We’re all pretty similar players. We all go to the net hard.

“We’re all physical. That could be a great combination when we get going and get our feet moving. Get pucks to the net. All three of us are desperate for a breakout game, that’s for sure. There’s no better stage than tonight against the Rangers.

“I’ve been struggling and it’s been a few games for the others guys since they scored. You gotta score goals to win hockey games.”

Hartnell has two goals this season but also missed 16 games with a fracture in his left foot. Schenn has gone 11 games without a goal while Simmonds has not scored in seven games.
