Holmgren: Giroux injury appears to be ‘whiplash'

CHICAGOFlyers general manager Paul Holmgren, speaking to reporters at Ed Sniders induction in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday night, said that Claude Girouxs problems right now dont appear to be a concussion but whiplash.

Giroux was accidentally kneed in the back of the head by teammate Wayne Simmonds during Saturdays game against Tampa Bay.

The Flyers center will not play in Washington on Tuesday (see blog post.)

He was better today, Holmgren said. He did some things physically and felt OK. Well continue to err on the side of caution.

Hes got a little whiplash going. Hes done the tests and his scores are OK. A concussion? I dont know. I wouldnt go that far just yet. Sometimes they come forward after a certain period of time.

He actually has issues with his neck right now.
