NHL draft prep: 10 targets who fit Flyers' needs

New general Ron Hextall will be making the final decision on his first draft for the Flyers. He has an excellent reputation for identifying talent and that should excite the fan base.

Here are players they may have a chance at drafting in no particular order.

1. Alex Tuch, 6-4/213, RW
He’s a highly skilled power forward. The Flyers don’t have anybody like him in their system. Players with his skill set go on to be very productive players.

2. Tony DeAngelo, 5-11/175, D
The Flyers interviewed the South Jersey native at the combine and he made no bones about wanting to play for his hometown team. The Flyers would likely have to trade up for the offensively gifted, smooth-skating blueliner.

3. Alexis Vanier, 6-5/215, D
A big defenseman who hits hard, shoots hard and will drop the gloves. He has an active stick on defense and could be a great bookend with Sam Morin down the road.

4. Anton Karlsson, 6-1/187, RW
He has a hard shot. He makes scoring chances occur with pinpoint passing. He’s a very fast skater who describes himself as a “warrior.” In a draft that features some nice wingers, the Flyers have to land one.

5. Kasperi Kapanen, 5-11/172, RW
The Flyers spoke to Sami’s son, so they certainly have some interest. Now do you hope this two-way prospect falls or do you trade up for him? He has all the tools in the toolbox.

6. Sonny Milano, 6-0/183, LW
He has soft hands, he’s tenacious on offense and he plays well in the dirty areas. I can see the Flyers keeping an eye on this wild card who can certainly get picked before their turn or have to decide whether they’ll pass on him.

7. Dysin Mayo, 6-1/180, D
He just won a Memorial Cup with the Edmonton Oil Kings and his increased minutes show how far he’s come. He can quarterback a power play and he’s an excellent puck mover. He’s not a complete project, but from the second round on he’d be a good pick.

8. Joe Wegwerth, 6-3/230, LW
This heavy hitter played well for the NTDP. He knows how to use his size and he can grind it out along the wall. If he’s around late he could be a good pickup because you have to have some players who can play this type of hockey. Committed to Notre Dame.

9. Demico Hannoun, 6-0/185, C
He’s Nick Petan’s cousin, who was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets last year, and he was almost a point-per-game player in the BCHL. He has a heavy shot and he’s physical. Good late-round gamble. Committed to Michigan Tech.

10. Adrian Kempe, 6-2/187, LW
Again the Flyers could use a big winger in their system and this Swede would be a fine selection with their first-round pick. He has a ton of skill and he’s already playing against men. He’s probably on the Flyers' draft board.
