NHL Notes: Islanders sign Poulin to 1-year deal

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The New York Islanders have agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with goalie Kevin Poulin.

Poulin appeared in 28 games last season with the Islanders and posted an 11-16-1 record, with a .891 save percentage and a 3.29 goals-against-average.

The Islanders last month agreed to a four-year contract with Jaroslav Halak.

In 49 career games with the Islanders, Poulin has an 18-25-2 record with a 3.08 GAA and .900 save percentage.

The Islanders selected Poulin in the fifth round, 126th overall, of the 2008 draft (see full story).

Bruins: Sacco named assistant coach
The Boston Bruins have found a replacement for Geoff Ward.

The team on Thursday added Joe Sacco as an assistant coach on Claude Julien's staff.

Sacco spent last season as an assistant in Buffalo. Prior to joining the Sabres, he was in charge of the Colorado Avalanche for four years. He compiled a 130-134-40 record with the Avs and was a Jack Adams finalist in 2010.

As pointed out by ProHockeyTalk, the move to Boston will represent a homecoming for Sacco, a Massachusetts native who played at Boston College.

Ward left the B's last week to take the head coaching job with Adler Mannheim in Germany. He spent seven seasons in Boston.


Canadiens: Eller signs 4-year contract
MONTREAL -- The Montreal Canadiens avoided arbitration with center Lars Eller, agreeing to a four-year contract on Thursday.

Eller was scheduled to have an arbitration hearing on Friday.

"Very happy to be part of the Montreal Canadiens for 4 more years," Eller wrote on Twitter.

"We are very pleased to have agreed upon a long term agreement with Lars Eller," general manager Marc Bergevin said in a statement. "He is an important part of our group of young veterans.

Canucks: 1st-round pick McCann signs
VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- The Vancouver Canucks have signed center Jared McCann to an entry-level contract.

The 18-year-old McCann played last season with the Ontario Hockey League's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, where he finished second on the team in goals (27) and points (62) in 64 games.

He was selected by Vancouver in the first round, 24th overall, of the 2014 draft.
