Canadians: Pacioretty named captain
MONTREAL -- Max Pacioretty was voted captain of the Montreal Canadiens by his teammates, becoming only the third American to take the role with the storied franchise.

The 26-year-old former University of Michigan player joins Brian Gionta (2010-14) and Chris Chelios (co-captain with Guy Carbonneau in 1989-90) as the only U.S. captains.

Pacioretty is the 29th captain in franchise history. P.K. Subban, Andrei Markov, Tomas Plekanec and Brendan Gallagher will serve as alternate captains.

The Canadiens are going with a single captain this season after going with four alternates last season in Pacioretty, Plekanec, Markov and Subban.

Forward Cody McCormick is out indefinitely after he failed his physical. Bylsma says the 10-year veteran has not recovered from a blood clot that was discovered in his left leg in January. He missed the rest of the season.
