NHL Notes: Jets, Drew Stafford talking extension?

Drew Stafford might not see free agency on July 1.

Winnipeg is trying to sign Stafford to a contract extension, according to Elliotte Friedman (via ProHockeyTalk).

Stafford was traded to the Jets in the February blockbuster that sent Evander Kane to the Sabres. He played 26 games with Winnipeg, scoring nine goals and 19 points.

The 29-year-old added a goal and an assist in four playoff games.

A North Dakota product, Stafford combined for 18 goals between the Sabres and Jets last season, and could be an option for the Flyers come free agency.

That is, if the right winger reaches the open market.

Rangers: Significant interest in Talbot?
Cam Talbot has a Henrik Lundqvist problem, but he may soon find himself with a different team.

The Rangers have received a "significant amount of interest" in Talbot, the New York Post's Larry Brooks writes.

Talbot was more than an adequate fill-in for Lundqvist while the Swedish goalie was out with a vascular injury. And his performance caught the eyes of the NHL.

Not only are the Rangers getting interest from teams looking for a starting goalie, but also teams that are searching for a backup, according to Brooks.

The 28-year-old netminder was 21-9-4 with a 2.21 goals-against average and .926 save percentage this past season.

He has one year left on his contract, which carries a $1.45 million cap hit.

Avalanche: Team listening to offers for O'Reilly
Two years ago, Ryan O'Reilly signed an offer sheet with Calgary and the then-restricted free agent seemed like he could move on from Colorado.

But the Avalanche decided to match the two-year, $10 million contract. Then last year, the Avs signed O'Reilly to a two-year, $12 million extension.

Now?

The Avalanche are now listening to trade offers for the 24-year-old, per Friedman.

O'Reilly played in every game with Colorado last season, scoring 17 goals and 55 points.

With one year left on his contract — he'll make $6.2 million in 2015-16 — O'Reilly will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2016.
