NHL Notes: Senators ink Legwand to 2-year deal

OTTAWA -- The Ottawa Senators agreed to terms with center David Legwand on a two-year contract Friday.

Legwand split last season between the Nashville Predators and the Detroit Red Wings. He had 51 points (14 goals, 37 assists) in 83 games.

The Detroit native played the first 15 seasons of his NHL career with Nashville before a March 5 trade sent him to the Red Wings.

He has 577 points in 977 games.

The Senators also re-signed defenseman Eric Gryba to a two-year deal. Gryba had 11 points in 57 games last season.

Canucks: Kassian and Weber re-signed
VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed forward Zack Kassian and defenseman Yannick Weber on Friday.

Kassian had 29 points (14 goals, 15 assists) and 124 penalty minutes in 73 games for the Canucks last season.

"Zack is a skilled, young player and an important member of this team," Canucks general manager Jim Benning said in a statement. "He has the ability to impact a game both with his talent and size. We look forward to seeing him continue to develop as a Canuck."

Weber, who split last season between Vancouver and the Utica Comets of the AHL, had 10 points in 49 games for Vancouver.

Also Friday, the Canucks re-signed goaltender Joe Cannata. He spent last season with the Comets, his third in the AHL.

Blue Jackets: Gibbons inks one-year deal
Small and speedy forward Brian Gibbons has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Gibbons played with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season. He played 41 games with the big club in 2013-14, tallying a dozen assists. He played another 28 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL, recording 30 points.

The 5-foot-8 26-year-old was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Boston College last season by the Penguins.
