BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Ryan Miller made 36 saves and Mark Pysyk scored an unusual goal at 3:47 of overtime to lift the short-handed Buffalo Sabres to a 2-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday night.
Pysyk, a call-up from Buffalo's AHL affiliate in Rochester, scored when his deflected shot hit Martin Hanzal and became lodged in the back Mike Smith's jersey. The goalie retreated into his crease, unwittingly carrying the puck across the line and ending the game.
Tyler Ennis also scored for Buffalo, which is 4-0-1 in its last five home games after starting the season 3-12-1 at First Niagara Center.
The Sabres started the game with just 16 skaters after a virus left Linus Omark, Cody Hodgson, Ville Leino, Marcus Foligno and Alexander Sulzer unable to play.
Hanzal scored for the Coyotes, who concluded a four-game road trip with a 1-1-2 record. Smith made 30 saves (see full recap).
Kane, Blackhawks top Devils
CHICAGO -- Patrick Sharp scored twice and Patrick Kane, Bryan Bickell and Nick Leddy also connected to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 5-2 win over the New Jersey Devils on Monday night.
Stephen Gionta and Michael Ryder had goals for the Devils, whose season-high four-game point streak (3-0-1) ended.
Kane has points in 12 straight games, matching his career high -- set earlier this season and just before his run.
He has seven goals and 14 assists in his streak, and at least one point in all but one of his past 25 games, helping him climb into second in the NHL scoring race behind Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby.
Bickell's goal was his first since Nov. 10, but he missed 14 of Chicago's 19 games during that span with a knee injury.
Chicago rookie Antti Raanta blocked 10 shots in his seventh straight start -- all since Blackhawks top goalie Corey Crawford suffered a lower-body injury on Dec. 8 (see full recap).
Senators crush Penguins
OTTAWA -- Craig Anderson made 27 saves for his second shutout of the season and the Ottawa Senators defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-0 on Monday.
The game was close after two periods but the Senators dominated the Penguins in the third outshooting them 15-9 while getting goals from Erik Karlsson, Kyle Turris and Cory Conacher.
Zack Smith and Bobby Ryan also scored for the Senators and Anderson earned the 24th shutout of his career.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 24 saves for the Penguins, but had his five-game winning streak come to an end.
The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Senators with all three of those losses coming in Ottawa.
The Penguins had won 12 of their past 13 games in Ottawa, including seven in a row (see full recap).
