NHL Wrap: Malkin scores in return, Pens win

PITTSBURGH -- Evgeni Malkin's favorite running mate is serving a five-game NHL suspension.

No matter. The Pittsburgh Penguins star can handle things by himself when he needs to.

Malkin scored in his return from a lower-body injury, Sidney Crosby added his 16th goal, and the Penguins beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 on Monday night (see full recap).

Ducks cruise past Islanders
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Corey Perry scored two goals and captain Ryan Getzlaf extended his point streak to 12 games in the Anaheim Ducks' 5-2 victory over the spiraling New York Islanders on Monday night.

Cam Fowler had his first career short-handed goal and added two assists. Saku Koivu scored his first goal in nearly two months in the Ducks' third consecutive win and the Islanders' 10th straight loss.

Perry scored a goal in his career-best sixth straight game late in the second period, and he added a power-play goal in the third to clinch the sixth 20-goal season of his career (see full recap).

Canucks shut out Hurricanes
VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Eddie Lack made 31 saves in his first NHL shutout, and the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0 on Monday night.

With No. 1 goalie Roberto Luongo getting the night off, the rookie earned his fourth win of the season in his first appearance at Rogers Arena.

Christopher Tanev and Jannik Hanzen, into an empty net, scored for Vancouver (18-10-5). Chris Higgins had two assists (see full recap).
