Because of salary cap issues inherited from his predecessor, Flyers president Paul Holmgren, new general manager Ron Hextall was unable to make any significant upgrades to the roster in the offseason.
However, Hextall remains confident for this upcoming season -- which is less than three weeks away -- and expressed as much Wednesday on Philly Sports Talk.
Hextall explained his philosophy for building the Flyers into a winning franchise. His focus will be on patience and improving from within the organization, which may have contributed to the lack of free-agent signings. It's a philosophy the Los Angeles Kings employed to win the franchise's first Stanley Cup in 2012, when Hextall was assistant GM.
“I believe in winning today," Hextall said, "but I also believe in planning for tomorrow.”
