Flyers GM Ron Hextall's philosophy regarding young players has been put to the test with the team's latest personnel decision.
Hextall has made it clear that young players, unless they clearly beat out a veteran, will be sent down to the AHL.
However, the Flyers recently announced that they will be keeping defenseman Samuel Morin for the remainder of the preseason, while Scott Laughton and Shayne Gostisbehere have been sent down to the Phantoms.
Morin was drafted by the Flyers with the 11th pick in the 2013 draft.
The mammoth 19-year-old stands at 6-7 and reaches 6-10 on skates. He is also incredibly mobile despite his size.
"The fact that they're keeping him around for the final preseason games I think pretty much says that he's been a beast," CSNPhilly.com Flyers insider Tim Panaccio said. "This is a young Chris Pronger."
Gostisbehere is another defenseman the Flyers are hoping can develop into a solid player, though Panaccio believed he was likely sent down to learn to take more hits.

Morin could bring some much-needed youth and mobility to the Flyers' defensive unit.
