Shayne Gostisbehere chasing Flyers history vs. Sabres

Shayne Gostisbehere will be chasing a share of Flyers history Thursday night against the Buffalo Sabres at Wells Fargo Center (see game notes).

Gostisbehere has a nine-game point streak on the line.

If the 22-year-old defenseman gets a point tonight, he will tie Mikael Renberg’s rookie franchise record of 10 games set during the 1993-94 season.

Renberg’s streak came at the very end of the '93-94 season between March 13 and April 2.

“It'd be cool to make history, but our team is not about individuality,” said Gostisbehere, whose composure and candidness in analyzing the Flyers after games this season has been a breath of fresh air in the dressing room.

“We’re here to make the playoffs.”

Flyers coach Dave Hakstol isn’t surprised by what is happening with "Ghost."

“He’s doing a good job,” Hakstol said. “His job is to be here, do his job and help us win games. He’s doing a good job. I’ve said all along.

“He has stayed true to what he is — a confident player. He’s got to continue working at his game. At this time of year, do the things necessary to help our team win.”

Among all rookie defensemen, Gostisbehere leads with 28 points despite playing just 34 games. He is fifth overall in that category; fifth among all rookie players, regardless of position, in assists (19); third in power-play goals (5); first in power-play assists (11); and first in power-play points (16). He is also fourth in game-winning goals (3).

Trifecta
If the Flyers defeat the Sabres tonight — they are 0-1-1 against them this season — it will mark the third consecutive season the Flyers’ 24th victory came against Buffalo.
