The NHL has awarded the 2015 Winter Classic to the Washington Capitals, according to Sportsnet.ca.

The Flyers and Boston Bruins, two sources told CSNPhilly.com, are the two finalists to meet the Caps at either Nationals Park or FedEx Field.

This would be yet another feather in the Flyers' winter toque. They met the Bruins at Fenway Park in 2010 and then hosted the New York Rangers at Citizens Bank Park in 2012.

"We haven't had any discussions with the league," Flyers president Peter Luukko said.

Other reports say Pittsburgh and Montreal are among the finalists.

The league’s signature outdoor event is held on New Year’s Day but it will be somewhat watered-down in 2014 as the NHL has decided to stage three additional other outdoor events in January and two in March.
