Flyers forward Steve Downie, who has a concussion, skated on his own Wednesday, and has been upgraded to day to day, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

“Steve continues to show improvement,” Holmgren said. “He skated today and will again tomorrow.”
Downie has missed the last two games after suffering a concussion in last Friday’s 7-0 blowout loss to the Washington Capitals in which he was injured during a fight with Caps forward Aaron Volpatti.
Downie spent two days at Pennsylvania Hospital before being released. He was acquired in a trade from Colorado last week for Max Talbot and was injured in his first game in what is his second stint as a Flyer.

Up and back
The Flyers recalled forward Kris Newbury from their AHL affiliate Adirondack Phantoms Wednesday. They also loaned forward Tye McGinn to the Phantoms.
